There is always another model waiting in the slicer. Today that model is the Voronoi giraffe sculpture, and we are taking a closer look at how the design came together and what makes it worth printing.

The voronoi giraffe sculpture takes the familiar outline of a sitting giraffe and hollows it out into an organic web of open cells, so the animal you recognize is built almost entirely from negative space.

The idea sits in that contrast: a shape everyone knows, rendered in a structure that looks nothing like an animal up close. The Voronoi pattern breaks the body into irregular, cell-like openings that flow across the neck, legs and torso, so the giraffe reads as both a solid form and a piece of abstract geometry depending on how close you stand.

What does the voronoi giraffe sculpture look like on a shelf

Printed in black, the sculpture reads as a bold, graphic object, closer to a piece of modern art than a typical animal figurine. The open cells throw shadows onto whatever surface it sits on, so the piece changes character with the light around it during the day. The silhouette stays clean and legible even with all that negative space removed from the body, which is part of the design choice: the giraffe has to be recognizable at a glance, not just up close.

Black gives the strongest contrast between the solid lattice and the gaps, but the design is meant to work in other finishes too. Natural, stone, wood, matte or colorful filaments are all mentioned as good options, so the sculpture can lean either graphic and architectural or warmer and more organic, depending on what’s already on your shelf.

A sculpture built for open surfaces, not tight corners

Because the body is mostly open lattice, this is a piece that wants room around it rather than a crowded shelf. It sits well as a single statement object on a sideboard, a desk corner or a low shelf where the shadow it casts has somewhere to fall. Placed among denser, solid objects, the open structure stands out precisely because it isn’t trying to compete with them in mass or color.

It reads equally well in a living room as a decor object and in an office as a desk piece, which is part of why it’s described as fitting home, office and creative spaces without needing to be dressed up further.

Printing notes worth knowing

The files come as STL for anyone printing on their own setup, plus predefined 3MF profiles specifically for Bambu Lab printers, which saves the step of dialing in a Voronoi structure from scratch. That matters more here than on a solid figure, because the open lattice means a fair number of overhangs and bridges running through the body, and support material is going to end up threaded through some of those gaps.

The one clear instruction from Sektor 7 Studios is to be careful when removing supports. With a lattice this open, a rushed cleanup pass is where thin struts get snapped, so it’s worth taking the extra few minutes per leg or neck section rather than pulling supports out in a hurry.

Where it fits in a growing collection

The voronoi giraffe sculpture is one entry in an ongoing series of artistic animal sculptures coming out of Sektor 7 Studios, all built around this same idea of taking a recognizable animal shape and reworking its body as an open geometric structure. If you print this one and like how it turns out, it’s worth watching for whichever animal gets the same treatment next, since the studio has said more are coming.

As a gift, it has an advantage over a lot of decorative prints: it doesn’t need a matching color scheme or a themed room to make sense. A giraffe on a shelf reads as decor anywhere, and the Voronoi surface gives it enough visual interest that it doesn’t need anything else nearby to hold attention.

That is another trip through the Sektor 7 design process complete. The Voronoi giraffe sculpture is ready whenever your printer is, and we already have the next project waiting somewhere between CAD, slicing, and caffeine.
