Before you send another spool through the printer, take a look at this one. Today we are talking about the Two Personality Pumpkin and the ideas and details that shaped the final design.

The two personality pumpkin gives you a jack-o-lantern with a split identity: look at it from one side and you get a carved skull, walk around it and a dark, dragon-like demon face stares back. It's a Halloween piece built for the tabletop turntable moment, where the reveal only happens once someone picks it up and rotates it.

What makes it worth a spot in your Halloween lineup is that the two faces don't just differ in expression, they differ in tone. The skull side reads as classic Halloween carving, clean and familiar. The dragon-inspired side goes further into monster territory, with more aggressive detailing worked into the same pumpkin silhouette. Printed side by side, or even as one piece, the contrast is the whole point of the design.

Two personality pumpkin: one file, two ways to build it

You get two complete versions in the files: a one-part pumpkin you print as a single object, and a multipart version broken into separate pieces. The one-part version is the simpler route if you just want the geometry and don't care about mixing colors. The multipart version exists specifically so you can get contrasting colors on the skull side and the dragon side without owning an AMS or any other multicolor hardware. You print each piece in the color you want, then assemble.

The multipart version also has a separate stem piece. That's a small detail but it matters for anyone painting or color-matching afterward, since the stem can be handled independently from the main pumpkin body rather than fighting for space with either character side during printing or finishing.

Getting the contrast without a multicolor printer

This is the actual problem the multipart version solves. Multicolor prints usually mean either swapping filament mid-print or owning an AMS-style system, and not everyone has one on hand. Here, the split is built into the geometry instead: you print the skull-side pieces in one filament, the dragon-side pieces in another, then join everything with a small amount of superglue. No pauses, no filament changes, no pruning strings from a color swap in the middle of a print.

That approach also gives you room to experiment. Because assembly happens after printing, you could try a bone-white skull half against a deep red or black dragon half, or go monochrome and let the sculpted detail do the talking. The two personality pumpkin was designed with that flexibility in mind from the start, since both versions are included in the same file set.

Assembly and what to expect

Assembly is described as easy: separate pieces, a little superglue, done. There's no mention of pins, magnets or interlocking joints, so the join itself is a straightforward glued seam rather than a mechanical fit. If you're printing the multipart version, it's worth dry-fitting the pieces before committing to glue, just to confirm orientation on the skull and dragon halves before they're permanently joined.

Anyone who has printed multipart figures before will recognize the trade-off: a bit more prep work at the assembly stage in exchange for clean, sharp color separation that a single-material print or manual painting can't easily match.

Where it sits in a Halloween collection

As a decoration, the two personality pumpkin works as a centerpiece rather than a background piece, since its whole design depends on being seen from more than one angle. It suits a shelf or table where people will naturally walk around it, rather than a spot pushed against a wall where only one face is ever visible. Next to other carved-pumpkin pieces it stands out by having two distinct characters instead of one expression, which makes it a good anchor piece if you're building out a Halloween display with multiple pumpkins at different points in a room.

It's also a reasonable pick if you're deciding between a quick single-color print and a more involved multicolor project, since both are the Two Personality Pumpkin and you can choose based on how much time you want to put into painting or assembly on a given weekend.

The design talk ends here, but the printing part is just getting started. Have fun with the Two Personality Pumpkin, try your own colors and materials, and we will meet again in the next studio log.
