The stranger lamp portal takes its shape from an idea familiar to anyone who has watched Stranger Things: two worlds pressed together, with a twisted, glowing seam where they meet. That seam becomes the lamp's centerpiece, a wormhole-like core that sits inside a clean printed frame, built for a desk or a shelf rather than a display case.

A gateway shape built around light

The centerpiece is what carries the idea. It's shaped like a gateway or wormhole stretching between two dimensions, meant to look as if the printed world and something beyond it are merging. The frame around it stays simple and clean by contrast, which is the right call: a busy frame would fight with the twisted shade instead of showing it off. The whole point of the stranger lamp portal is that contrast between the plain outer shell and the strange thing glowing inside it.

Warm white or something stranger

The lamp is designed to work with a classic warm-white LED, which gives it a calm, elegant look on a shelf. Swap in a multicolor lamp kit, though, and the character changes completely. The source material describes the multicolor version as giving the piece a more dramatic, supernatural atmosphere, closer to the Upside Down than to a normal desk light. Bambu Lab's LED Lamp Kit 001 is the reference kit, but equivalent kits from other suppliers work too, so you're not locked into one brand of light to finish the piece.

Printing the lampshade in vase mode

The lampshade section is the part that needs attention. It's meant to be printed in spiral vase mode, which is how a twisted, gateway-like form comes out as one continuous wall rather than a stack of separate layers. That also means there's no infill to speak of and no supports needed, which keeps the printing process straightforward, but it does leave the shade with a single thin wall. The one warning worth repeating from the source is to be careful when removing the lampshade from the printplate, since a thin vase-mode wall is more fragile at that stage than a solid print would be. Brim isn't necessary either, unless you run into adhesion trouble on your particular plate.

Assembly and where it fits

Assembly is described as easy, and the model was designed with that in mind from the start. Once the frame and shade are printed and the LED kit is fitted, the stranger lamp portal is a small enough object to live on a desk beside a keyboard or on a shelf among other prints, without needing dedicated floor space or a special mount. It reads as a mood piece more than a task light: something you'd switch on for the glow and the shape it throws, not to read by.

Choosing your version

If you're deciding which light to buy first, the warm-white kit is the safer starting point and gives the model a settled, elegant presence. The multicolor kit is the one to reach for if you want the dimensional effect the design is going for, since shifting colors do more to sell the idea of two worlds bleeding into one than a fixed warm tone can. Either way, the geometry doesn't change, only the atmosphere it produces once it's lit.

Files come as STL for anyone who wants to slice manually, plus predefined 3MF profiles for Bambu Lab printers for members, which removes some of the guesswork around the vase-mode settings the shade depends on. Sektor 7 Studios also offers licensing for both private and commercial use for anyone who wants to sell prints of it rather than keep the stranger lamp portal on their own shelf.
