Logitech MX Keyboard shell 3D print: a practical, bold desk upgrade
A modular two-piece shell with adapters, feet and no screws

There is always another model waiting in the slicer. Today that model is the Logitech MX Keyboard shell 3D print, and we are taking a closer look at how the design came together and what makes it worth printing.
The keyboard shell 3D print we designed for the Logitech MX Mechanical started life as a contest entry for the Logitech MX Keyboard Adaptive Add-ons Contest on Printables, and that deadline shaped almost every decision in it.
Rather than a simple cover, it became a modular housing that wraps the keyboard in a futuristic geometric shell while leaving room to grow with more parts later.
What problem does this shell actually solve
Most keyboard cases are static: one shape, one angle, done. This one treats the keyboard as a platform you can adjust and extend. The shell splits into left and right sections joined by three printed connectors, which keeps each half small enough to print without trouble and makes assembly a matter of clicking pieces together rather than wrestling with one large part.
Foldable feet are printed in place directly into the housing, so you fold them out for an elevated typing angle or fold them flat for a lower one. Optional rubber feet add grip on the desk if you want it. Cutouts in the shell keep the USB-C charging port and the ON/OFF switch accessible even with the keyboard fully installed, which matters for a wireless board you’re regularly charging.
Keyboard shell 3D print with a modular adapter
The adapter system is the part Sektor 7 Studios calls their favorite feature, and it’s easy to see why. The first adapter clips onto the shell and adds a smartphone holder alongside three storage slots sized for USB accessories and receivers. Worth noting: those slots are just storage compartments, not powered USB ports, so don’t expect to charge anything through them. The adapter is removable and built with the same geometric language as the main shell, so it reads as one design rather than a bolted-on extra. More adapters are planned, and the studio is asking people what they’d like added next.
How it prints and goes together
No supports are needed anywhere in the build, which keeps cleanup simple and the printed surfaces clean. Assembly runs in a short sequence: print the left and right housing sections, print the three connecting pieces, join the two halves with the connectors, drop the keyboard in, attach the adapter if you’re using one, then fold out the feet. Glue is optional and not normally needed, so the whole thing goes together and comes apart without screws or any permanent change to the keyboard itself.
One thing to watch for: the feet are printed in place as working hinges, so they need to be loosened carefully right after printing before you fold them for the first time. Files come as STL and as predefined 3MF profiles for Bambu Lab printers, with print profiles already set up for people who want to skip the guesswork.
Who a keyboard shell 3D print like this is for
This is a project for someone who already owns a full-size Logitech MX Mechanical and wants more out of it than a case. If you like adjusting your typing angle through the day, or you keep losing a USB receiver in a drawer, the storage adapter solves a real annoyance. The black-and-red color combination is the studio’s own favorite, but the shell is designed with customizable color combinations in mind, so splitting the print across two filament colors is part of the plan rather than an afterthought.
It’s meant to live on an actual desk, under an actual keyboard, doing a job every day rather than sitting on a shelf as decoration. For anyone building out a desk setup around the Logitech MX Mechanical, or looking for a free model that treats a keyboard case as a base to add things onto, this is worth queuing up. Since the modular system keeps expanding, printing the base shell now means new adapters should simply click onto something you already have.
That is all for this one. Enjoy the Logitech MX Keyboard shell 3D print, make it your own with your favorite colors and materials, and we will see you again when the next design leaves the workbench.
