The WUMI tripod lamp started with a simple pairing: a clean tripod stand under a shade with a woven texture, built to throw warm light through a patterned surface instead of a plain one. That texture is the whole point of the design. It's what turns a basic lamp shape into something with visual interest even when the light is off, and it's what scatters the light into a soft glow once it's on.
What the WUMI tripod lamp is built from
The design breaks into a few clear pieces: a tripod base, the textured cylindrical shade, and a set of adapter parts that connect to a lamp kit. You print all of it, then insert a compatible LED light kit before final assembly. There's no complicated wiring to design yourself, since the lamp is made to work with off-the-shelf kits, including recommended options from Amazon and Bambu Lab. One of the Amazon options even has a colored lighting function if you want more than a plain warm white.
The shade is the part that does the visual work. Its woven-style surface isn't just decorative texture for texture's sake, it's structural to how the light behaves once the lamp is on. Instead of a flat glow, you get a patterned spill of light and shadow across whatever surface it's sitting near.
How the shade prints
The lampshade is meant to be printed in vase mode, with 0% infill using a gyroid or grid pattern and a single wall. That's a deliberate choice for a piece like this, since vase mode is well suited to thin, hollow, decorative shapes that need to let light through evenly. No supports or brim are needed under normal conditions, which keeps the printing process simple, though a brim can be added if the base has trouble sticking to the plate.
One thing worth flagging directly: removing the printed lampshade from the plate needs a careful hand. Vase mode prints are thin by nature, and this shade is no exception, so it's worth taking your time at that step rather than rushing it.
Where the WUMI tripod lamp fits
This isn't a lamp built for a specific narrow use. It's suited to a desk, a sideboard, a shelf, a living room corner, or a bedside table, anywhere you want a bit of ambient light rather than a bright task lamp. The tripod base gives it a slightly elevated, modern silhouette that reads well next to other decor without competing for attention.
If you're deciding what to pair it with, the shade's texture is the detail to plan around. Because the woven pattern scatters light unevenly on purpose, it suits corners where you want atmosphere over brightness, a reading nook, a console table, a spot where a warm glow matters more than raw lumens.
What color should you print it in
The design was tested in matte white PLA, which lets the woven texture catch light and shadow clearly without a strong color underneath competing for attention. White also plays well with the warm LED light kits, since it doesn't tint the glow the way a darker or more saturated filament might. That said, the WUMI tripod lamp is open to experimentation: a colored filament will shift the mood of the light coming through the shade, and there's nothing in the build that locks you into one color choice. If you're printing your first one, matte white is the safer starting point before you try shifting the tone.
The lamp kit itself is where you have the most room to make decisions. A standard warm white kit keeps things closest to the cozy, ambient feel the design is aiming for, while a kit with color-changing function opens up the WUMI tripod lamp to more playful use, mood lighting for a living room rather than a steady bedside glow. Either way, the shade and base stay the same, so the character of the finished lamp comes down to filament color and light choice rather than any change to the print itself.
