Ribbo Tealight Lamp: a cozy 2-part sculptural glow

The Ribbo Tealight Lamp started as a question about how much a piece can do with two parts and no visible seams. It's a small light fixture built around a base that hides an LED tealight and a ribbed top that screws onto it, turning a cheap flickering candle into something that reads as designed furniture rather than a party favor.

What the ribbing actually does

The outer wall of the Ribbo Tealight Lamp is not just decoration for its own sake. The ribs are cut deep enough that they throw real shadows across a desk or shelf, and they do it whether the tealight inside is lit or not. Turned off, it still reads as a sculptural object with clean vertical lines. Turned on, the light escapes through the gaps in a soft, broken pattern instead of one flat glow. That double life — lit and unlit — is the whole reason the ribbed shape was chosen over a plain cylinder.

The base underneath is where the practical thinking sits. It's hollow enough to hold a standard LED tealight completely out of view, so from the outside you just see the glow coming through the ribs, not the plastic housing of the light itself. That hidden storage detail is small, but it's the difference between a lamp that looks finished and one that looks like a candle stuck in a tube.

Two parts, one thread

Sektor 7 Studios designed the Ribbo Tealight Lamp with only two printed parts on purpose. The top screws onto the base using a 45-degree thread, which means assembly is just screwing one piece onto the other and dropping the tealight in before you close it up. There's no glue step, no small connector pieces to lose, and nothing that needs sanding to fit. For a decor piece meant to go together quickly after printing, keeping it to two parts is a deliberate choice, not a shortcut.

That simplicity also means less can go wrong on the print bed. Two parts is two plates to manage instead of ten, and a thread that's designed to be printed rather than filed down afterward is one less thing to troubleshoot once the print finishes.

Choosing filament for the Ribbo Tealight Lamp

The studio's own prints used Elegoo PLA Silk Copper for the base and Bambu Lab PLA Matte white for the ribbed top, and the copper base under the white ribs is what gives the piece its warm, slightly premium look. That combination isn't a requirement, just what worked well together — the metallic sheen in the copper contrasts against the flat white so the base reads as a distinct component rather than blending into the top.

Because the top section is where the light needs to pass through the walls, the finish and color you pick there will change how the glow looks more than the base color will. A matte white, as used here, spreads the light evenly through the ribs rather than letting it pool in bright spots.

Where it sits in a room

This is a small decor piece, not a primary light source, and it's meant to be treated that way. It's suited to a shelf, a sideboard, a desk corner, or anywhere you'd normally put a candle but want something safer and reusable. Because it takes standard LED tealights, there's no flame to manage and no wax to replace, which makes it practical as a gift as much as a piece for your own space.

It also fits naturally into a design-focused collection rather than standing alone. The Ribbo Tealight Lamp reads as more sculpture than appliance when the light is off, which is worth keeping in mind if you're deciding where to place it: pick a spot where it can be looked at during the day, not just switched on at night.
