OMNI desk lamp: a warm, practical 2-base design

What it looks like lit up

The lampshade is where the OMNI desk lamp does its visual work. It's built as a cylindrical, open mesh pattern, and when the light module is on, that pattern throws soft light and shadow across the desk and walls around it rather than a flat wash of brightness.

Choosing a warm-white bulb in the lamp kit gives it a calm, cozy glow suited to a reading corner or bedside table. Swap in a multicolor kit and the same shade turns into something more dramatic, closer to an otherworldly night light than a work lamp. The perforations aren't just decoration, they're what makes the light interesting instead of just present.

How it goes together

Assembly is meant to be quick, with no complicated tools involved. The build has a handful of parts: the base with its tray, a printed holder for the lamp kit, the LED light module itself, the mesh shade, and a retaining ring.

You insert the light module into the printed holder, attach that to the base, place the shade over the top, and lock it down with the ring. The cable routes visibly through the base rather than disappearing inside it, which keeps the OMNI desk lamp simpler.

One thing worth flagging before you start: the lampshade needs to come off the OMNI desk lamp plate carefully, since its open mesh structure is more delicate than a solid print.

Printing the OMNI desk lamp shade

The lampshade is designed to print clean, without supports, which matters given how fine the mesh geometry is. It can be printed in spiral vase mode for a smooth, continuous surface, though vase mode isn't required if you'd rather print it with normal walls.

The rest of the model, the base, tray, and holder, prints as you'd expect for a functional desk piece, with no exotic requirements beyond what a typical FDM setup handles.

Compatibility and where the lamp kit comes from

This lamp is built around the Bambu Lab LED Lamp Kit, sold directly through the Bambu Lab store, and compatible kits are also available on Amazon if that's easier to source. You'll need one of these kits alongside the printed parts, since the model is the housing and organizer around the electronics rather than a lamp with its own wiring.

That's a deliberate choice: it keeps the printed parts focused on shape, storage, and light diffusion, and leaves the actual LED hardware to a purpose-built kit that's already reliable.

Where it fits

This is a lamp for a spot where you actually sit and work: a desk, a bedside table, a reading corner, somewhere the tray gets used as much as the light does. Between the two base heights, the wide, low base suits a desk where the lamp needs to stay out of the way, while the taller compact base works better if you want the light thrown from higher up.
