Hey everyone, welcome back to the studio. The Desk organizer tray 3D print is in focus today, and we are going through the details, design decisions, and little features that might not be obvious at first glance.

A desk organizer tray 3D print earns its keep the moment you stop hunting for a pen or a stray screw on a cluttered desk. Sempi was designed as a compact tray that holds the small things you touch every day, without turning your workspace into a junk drawer.

What Sempi looks like on the desk

The body has a clean, rounded shape with a warm, textured outer surface. That texture comes from fuzzy skin applied to the side walls, which gives the tray a tactile, slightly premium feel instead of the flat plastic look you get from a stock print. Inside sits a removable ribbed inlet, printed in black, which creates a visual contrast against the outer shell and does the actual job of keeping pens, keys, or screws from sliding around.

It reads as a finished product rather than a print-and-forget prototype. The rounded edges and the two-tone look make it something you’d leave out on a desk rather than tuck into a drawer.

Why six parts instead of one

Sempi is built from only six printed parts, and that number matters because it keeps assembly genuinely simple. You print the body, the inlet, and the feet, then press the inlet into place and screw the feet onto the base. There’s no glue step, no fiddly alignment, and no printed screws or heat-set inserts to fuss over.

The press-fit inlet is worth calling out on its own. Because it’s removable, you can pull it out to empty the tray of dust or shake out crumbs, or swap it for a different insert if you print variations later. That’s a small design decision, but it’s the kind that separates a tray you actually use from one that ends up as shelf decoration. This is the kind of detail that makes a desk organizer tray 3D print worth keeping around instead of printing once and forgetting.

Does the fuzzy skin texture affect how it prints?

The textured sides are achieved with a fuzzy skin setting applied to the body, using a point distance of 0.40 mm and a thickness of 0.30 mm. This setting is optional. It was used for the version shown, but Sempi will print fine without it if you’d rather keep the surface smooth. If you do want the textured look, the .3mf file with the setting already applied is available, along with predefined print profiles for Bambu Lab printers for those who prefer not to dial it in themselves.

Because fuzzy skin is a surface treatment rather than a structural change, it doesn’t affect the assembly or the fit between the inlet and the body. It’s purely a finish decision, and one you can make part by part if you want the feet or inlet to stay smooth while the body gets the tactile treatment.

Desk organizer tray 3D print for the workshop or the office

Sempi fits anywhere small items need a home: a desk, a workshop bench, an office drawer top, or a bedside table if you’re using it for jewelry. It was designed with desks and creative setups in mind, but its use is broad enough to cover screws and tools in a workshop just as easily as pens and paperclips in an office.

For anyone assembling a set of office essentials on their printer, Sempi is a reasonable one to start with. It’s small enough to print without committing a full spool, and simple enough in its six-part construction that assembly won’t eat your evening. The removable inlet means the tray stays useful even as what you store in it changes over time.

That is it for today. Keep those nozzles warm.
